Cie'th Stone Missions - 7

Mission 56: Name: A Toothy Grin

Rank: C
Mark: Ugallu
Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe – Eastern Tors (stone circle)
Mark location: Yaschas Massif – The Ascendant Scarp
Reward: Rhodochrosite

A nice break from the difficult battles you've been fighting as of late, Ugallu is basically the biggest of the "big cat" marks. If you're taking the missions on in order and not skipping around any, this is a very easy fight even with the Munchkin backup he employs. Otherwise, keep to the use of Ice and Wind spells to do the most damage in the shortest amount of time.

Mission 57: Name: What's Yours is Brine

Rank: C
Mark: Sahagin
Stone location: Archylte Steppe – Eastern Tors (stone circle)
Mark location: Vallis Media – Atzilut's Tears
Reward: Uraninite

More of these guys? Yeah, they aren't much of a threat by this point, no matter how big their numbers are. Kill 'em fast and enjoy your filet o' fish.

Mission 58: The Culler of Many

Rank: A
Mark: Humbaba
Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe – Eastern Tors (stone circle)
Mark location: Mah'habara – The Earthworks
Reward: Speed Sash

At the risk of repeating ourselves yet again, Humbaba isn't much different here than he was from the Titan mission – he's just got a fairly easy-to-kill Robot buddy as backup this time around. Follow a similar strategy as before and it won't be too much of a hassle.

Mission 59: Two-Faced Fiend

Rank: A
Mark: Zirnitra
Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe – Eastern Tors (stone circle)
Mark location: Sulyya Springs – Subterranean Lake
Reward: Energy Sash

We'll make this short: Zinitra again, more backup again. Still pretty difficult, be careful, et cetera.

Mission 60: Degela Vu

Rank: A
Mark: Gelatitan
Stone Location: Archylte Steppe – Eastern Tors
Mark Location: Taejin's Tower – The Cloven Spire
Reward: Mnar Stone

Remember Gelatitan? It's multiplied. You'll be taking on three of these overgrown puddles of mud for this particular hunt, which makes things considerably more challenging, as they can gang up and do a lot of damage. Keep a medic on hand to heal and work to Stagger them one at a time using your strongest spellcasters and Thunder-elemental attacks.

Mission 61: I, Juggernaut

Rank: A
Mark: Juggernaut
Cie'th Stone location: Archylte Steppe – Eastern Tors (stone circle)
Mark location: Oerba – Village Proper
Reward: Royal Armlet

No one can stop the Juggernaut – except for your party. And really, he’s not too much different from your last few encounters – he doesn’t even have any backup to throw a wrench into things. Your previous strategies will work fine.

Mission 62: Indomitable Will

Rank: A
Mark: Raktavija
Stone Location: Archylte Steppe – Eastern Tors (stone circle)
Mark Location: Archylte Steppe – Central Expanse
Reward: Genji Glove

You’ll need a Chocobo to get up to the high platform where you’ll be fighting. Put your Shrouds on and set your Saboteurs to Slow, because this is going to be one very, very tough fight.

Raktavija is pretty tough by itself, but now you’ve got a pair of them to deal with, and they can put extreme hurt on your party very, very quickly. You’ll want to Slow and otherwise debilitate the pair as much as possible from the get-go in order to make things ever so slightly easier. From there, focus your attacks on them one at a time, working to break their defenses as best you can. Since they can inflict such a heavy amount of damage in such a short amount of time, you’ll want to either have a Medic around constantly or be constantly prepared to shift one (or two) in at a moment’s notice.

This is one that you will likely have to try several times, as even a minor mistake can leave you very dead. This is another prime candidate to save for the postgame runthrough – though it’ll still be a rough battle.

Mission 63: Crushed by Doubt

Rank: A
Mark: Adamantoise
Cie'th Stone location: Sulyya Springs – Subterranean Lake
Mark location: Archylte Steppe – Eastern Tors
Reward: Genji Glove

From the moment you see what your mark is, you should know that this fight is going to be very, very painful.  You’ve no doubt tried to kill Adamantoises in the field by now, only to get crushed like a pancake. Well, you’re still pretty likely to get crushed, unless you act very, very quickly.

Summons are generally only really useful in specific situations, and this is one of them. Bring down your beast from the heavens, swap it into Gestalt mode, and then use its strongest attack to knock Adamantoise to the ground.  Quickly put some buffs and debuffs on your team using Synergists and Saboteurs, but don’t waste too much time with them – just throw Haste and a few attack buffs on – and then go to town. Once you’ve Staggered him, the fight will be much easier. Just pray you can off it before it manages to get up… which is easier said than done. However, another thing to note is that, like Neochu, he’s vulnerable to Vanille’s Death technique. It’s easier to take him out this way once he’s down and had a few debuffs stacked on him, but you’re still going to have to rely heavily on luck this way.

Mission 64: The Doomherald

Rank: A
Mark: Vercigetorix
Cie'th Stone location: Oerba – Rust-eaten Bridge
Mark location: Yaschas Massif – Paddraean Archaeopolis
Reward: Gold Watch

This is it, guys – the last mark of the game. You can either do this the easy way, or the very hard way.

The easy way is to simply poison him and tank, waiting for his HP to dry up. This won’t get you five stars, but it will get you the victory and the Trophies/Achievements. If you’re up for “playing cheap,” then this is the way to go.

If you’re planning to tough it out, well, it’s gonna be a rough ride. With over 15 million HP and resistances to almost everything, you’re going to be spending a lot of time just chipping away, trying to Stagger him when the opportunity arises, Paradigm Shifting into defensive formations whenever necessary to recuperate. He has one particularly vicious attack that can slaughter you outright – if you see it coming, switch everyone into Sentinel mode and you’ll lessen the damage by a great deal. Be constantly aware of your party’s status and be ready to swap Paradigms immediately if things start looking bad. Again, patience and perseverance are a must – but once you beat this challenging foe, it will be one very sweet victory.

- End -

Mission 56-64

Warrior (Fighter) — A specialist in heavy weapons and armor who can withstand tremendous amounts of punishment. Can become the Knight later in the game, who is able to use the most powerful weapons and some White Magic spells.

Monk (Black Belt) — A martial arts expert who is best left fighting empty-handed, but may also wield nunchaku, and the most basic of staves. Does tremendous amounts of damage in combat, but cannot wear heavy armor. Can become the Master later in the game. In the original Famicom/NES version a high level, barehanded Master who is unencumbered by armor, can do more damage in a single attack than any other character type; a party of four Masters can defeat the final boss monster in less than two full rounds. A rather weak class in the beginning, but you never have to buy much weapons/armor for him.

Thief — A high evasion/accuracy finesse fighter with very limited weapon and armor selection, but greater agility and luck (ability to escape from combat). However, the ability to flee is bugged in versions before the Origins release. Later in the game, the Thief can be upgraded to the Ninja class. Ninja can use almost every weapon and most armor, and can use many Black Magic spells.

White Mage — A specialist in White Magic. Not a good fighter, but can use hammers for physical attacks. Can be upgraded into a White Wizard, which allows the character to use the most powerful White Magic spells in the game.

Black Mage — A specialist in Black Magic and a very weak fighter. Becomes the Black Wizard later on. Black Wizard is the only character who can cast Flare (NUKE in the original North American localization), one of the two damaging spells that retain full effectiveness against Chaos (the White Wizard can cast Holy, the other spell, but it is less powerful than Flare).

Red Mage — A jack-of-all-trades character, able to use most but not all of both White and Black Magic, and possessing fighting abilities similar to but not quite as good as the Fighter. Becomes the Red Wizard later in the game.
