The story begins on a day when the world's wind currents begin to slow and stale. Deeply troubled by this occurrence, the king of Tycoon makes ready to travel to the Wind Shrine on the back of his drake, quelling the worries of his daughter, Princess Lenna. Upon arriving at the Shrine, the king bears witness to the Wind Crystal shattering before his eyes.......

Story

The main gameplay feature is the revamped job systemallowing all characters to potentially master up to twenty-two jobs. The player starts out as "Freelancer", and as they travel to new Crystal locations, the party acquire new jobs.

Bartz Klauser (known as Butz Klauser in the Japanese version) is the main protagonist of Final Fantasy V. He is the son of one of the original Warriors of Dawn, Dorgann Klauser, and a woman named Stella. His mother died from cardiac arrest when he was young, and his father died three years before the game begins. On advice from his father, Bartz decided to wander the world.

Lenna Charlotte Tycoon, also known as Reina, is the daughter of King Tycoon. Lenna, though adventurous and brave, is also kind and gentle. She would gladly put herself at risk for the sake of others, and can be impulsive. She especially loves dragons and puts herself in danger twice to save the life of a wind drake while she is a Warrior of Light.

Galuf Halm Baldesion, also known as Galuf Doe, is the king of Castle of Bal and one of the four Warriors of Dawn. He is a mysterious old man with amnesia discovered unconscious at the meteorite. His past is initially unknown, but is revealed as the story progresses. Galuf's pride and joy is his granddaughter Krile Mayer Baldesion, whom he cares for deeply. Their relationship is similar to Relm and Strago's relationship in Final Fantasy VI; as with them, Krile seems to look out for him as much as he does her.

Faris Scherwiz, real name Sarisa Scherwil Tycoon, is a pirate captain who travels with a pirate ship and its crew, accompanied by a sea-dragon named Syldra. The party first encounters Faris when they try to steal the pirate ship, which leads to their adventures as the Warriors of Light.

Krile Mayer Baldesion, also known as Cara or Kururu, is the granddaughter of Galuf Halm Baldesion and the princess of Bal Castle. She can talk to moogles and chocobos and tame and befriend wind drakes. She keeps a pet moogle in her room and a wind drake on her balcony.

Dorgann Klauser is not only bartz father, he is one of the four original Dawn Warriors who sealed Exdeath in Bartz world. He was against doing so, and elected to remain behind after it was done. There he settled in Lix, where he married and they had a son. With complications to ehr health, Dorgann's wife died, and he passed shortly after. He wished Bartz to see the world, and live free.

Kelger Vlondett is one of the four original Dawn Warriors. Togther with his companions, they sealed Exdeath in Bartz world. Now Kelger is in his village, where he is guardian of the gate to Drakenvale. he will test Bartz before allowing the party passage north.

Xezat Matias Surgate is one of the four original Dawn Warriors. Togther with his companions, they sealed Exdeath in Bartz world. Now that he is free, Zexat is working to take down the barrier on the castle, so they might be able to strike back at Exdeath and bring him down once more.

King Tycoon is a dutiful man who puts the best interests of his kingdom and the world above his own needs and unhesitatingly risks his life to protect others. He passed on the values of devotion and self-sacrifice to his daughter, Lenna. King Tycoon is a loving father although he can be stern.

Game Video

Warrior (Fighter) — A specialist in heavy weapons and armor who can withstand tremendous amounts of punishment. Can become the Knight later in the game, who is able to use the most powerful weapons and some White Magic spells.

Monk (Black Belt) — A martial arts expert who is best left fighting empty-handed, but may also wield nunchaku, and the most basic of staves. Does tremendous amounts of damage in combat, but cannot wear heavy armor. Can become the Master later in the game. In the original Famicom/NES version a high level, barehanded Master who is unencumbered by armor, can do more damage in a single attack than any other character type; a party of four Masters can defeat the final boss monster in less than two full rounds. A rather weak class in the beginning, but you never have to buy much weapons/armor for him.

Thief — A high evasion/accuracy finesse fighter with very limited weapon and armor selection, but greater agility and luck (ability to escape from combat). However, the ability to flee is bugged in versions before the Origins release. Later in the game, the Thief can be upgraded to the Ninja class. Ninja can use almost every weapon and most armor, and can use many Black Magic spells.

White Mage — A specialist in White Magic. Not a good fighter, but can use hammers for physical attacks. Can be upgraded into a White Wizard, which allows the character to use the most powerful White Magic spells in the game.

Black Mage — A specialist in Black Magic and a very weak fighter. Becomes the Black Wizard later on. Black Wizard is the only character who can cast Flare (NUKE in the original North American localization), one of the two damaging spells that retain full effectiveness against Chaos (the White Wizard can cast Holy, the other spell, but it is less powerful than Flare).

Red Mage — A jack-of-all-trades character, able to use most but not all of both White and Black Magic, and possessing fighting abilities similar to but not quite as good as the Fighter. Becomes the Red Wizard later in the game.
